A novel evaluation framework called StructEval is proposed to assess large language models (LLMs) more comprehensively and robustly than current methods. The traditional single-item assessment approach can be misleading, as it may not distinguish between a model’s genuine understanding and memorization/guessing abilities. StructEval addresses this issue by conducting a structured evaluation across multiple cognitive levels and critical concepts, providing a more reliable and consistent assessment of LLM capabilities. Experimental results on three benchmarks demonstrate the effectiveness of StructEval in resisting data contamination and reducing potential biases.
