This paper investigates Theory of Mind (ToM) in environments with multiple AI agents, each with unique internal states and objectives. Inspired by human false-belief experiments, the authors create an AI that assesses whether its clone would benefit from additional instructions on a ToM task. The results show that contemporary AI demonstrates near-perfect accuracy on human-centric ToM assessments but incorrectly anticipates the need for assistance when working with other AI. This study highlights the limitations of current AI in understanding mental states and reasoning about the capabilities of other AI agents.
