The paper proposes a novel approach to improve human multimodal language understanding (MLU) by introducing a recapitulative causal graph and a simple yet effective causal intervention module called SuCI. The existing works in this field focus on designing sophisticated structures or fusion strategies, but they all suffer from the subject variation problem due to data distribution discrepancies among subjects. The proposed SuCI module can be widely applied to most MLU methods that seek unbiased predictions.
