The proposed Lane Graph Transformer (LGT) model is designed for accurate prediction of future vehicle trajectories, crucial for autonomous vehicles’ safe operation. The key innovation lies in incorporating map topology structure into the attention mechanism. To address lane information variations from different directions, four Relative Positional Encoding (RPE) matrices capture local map details, while two Shortest Path Distance (SPD) matrices consider distance between accessible lanes. On the Argoverse 2 dataset, the LGT model shows improved prediction performance, outperforming the baseline models by a significant margin.
Low GrooveSquid.com (original content) Low Difficulty Summary
This study creates a new AI model that helps self-driving cars predict where other vehicles will go next. The idea is to use map information to make better predictions. To do this, the researchers developed a special kind of “attention” that looks at the road layout and takes into account how different lanes are connected. They tested their model on real data and found it worked much better than existing methods.
