In this paper, researchers introduce LVBench, a benchmark designed to evaluate the capabilities of multimodal language models in understanding long videos. The current state-of-the-art models are limited to short video comprehension and struggle with tasks that require extended comprehension, such as embodied intelligence, movie reviews, and live sports commentary. To bridge this gap, LVBench features a diverse set of tasks aimed at long video comprehension and information extraction, using publicly sourced videos. The authors demonstrate the challenges faced by current models in understanding long videos through extensive evaluations. They aim to stimulate the development of more advanced models capable of tackling complex long video comprehension tasks.

But what about longer videos, like movies or sports games? Those require a lot more understanding and memory. The researchers created LVBench to test how well AI models do with these longer videos.
